Back to School 2015-2016

Honestly, where does time go?  Here we are ready to go back to school and I am seriously not done with summer yet.  Can I ask for a summer extension?!!!

Needless to say I was not excited for this school year to start.  I was not psychologically prepared even though I knew it would be happening.  I have three children at three different schools this year. Each school starts at a different time - thus no group picture of the kids this year.

There were a lot of changes this year and they have all thrown me for a loop.  First they started a week earlier than usual and then they changed the school times.  High School is still at 8:00am but a new time for us with a brand new high school student.  Middle school got moved from 8:45am to 9:00am.  Which means they don't get out until 3:30pm which means my daughter does not get home until 3:45pm, which means by the time she has a snack and unwinds for a few minutes it is already 4:00pm.  That is just too late!  Then they changed elementary schools to start from 9:00am to 8:30am.  And because they don't want any children missing out on school breakfast the buses now have to be there at least 20-30 minutes before school starts.  So now my elementary age child leaves the house at 7:40am to catch the bus at 7:52am to start school at 8:30am (our school is 5 minutes away).  And he is my most difficult child to get up.  He is going to love going to middle school next year with a whole hour later difference.

The time changes also messed up what little I do of piano teaching.  No one wants morning lessons - especially not now that school is so early for the elementary kids.  My middle school kids can't start until 3:45 - so that wastes a whole spot to accommodate them.  I don't have many after school times as it is because of taking care of my kids, but this did not help things.  Because I have so few students I need to find another job.  Just much easier said than done!!!!  I still am praying for the right job to come up.

The other change that is really hard is that they changed the bus routes.  They didn't want buses going into the neighborhoods any more - especially during snow season.  Come on buses!  Didn't you know that is why I use you in the first place?!  My neighborhood is great for getting stuck in during the winter.  I depend on the bus to get my kids to school.  Now I have to walk down my street (all down hill) and back up the other street (all up hill) to get to 37th.  I'm probably going to slip and kill myself walking there and back every morning in the winter.  Can I sue the bus company or the school district if that happens?

The biggest and most dreaded change is that of seminary.  I'm excited that my child will get to have a spiritual experience every day.  I am so thankful for those that prepare and teach seminary.  I am not however excited to get up every morning at 5am to make sure that that happens.  And instead of giving the kids a week to adjust to school and then start seminary they started seminary just one day after school started.  It has been a hard and rough last couple of days!!!!  I literally had a panic attack last night knowing that for the whole rest of the year (and six more years) my life was going to be just like the day I had already had.

Okay, I guess that is enough of my whining.  Hopefully things can only get better from here, right?!

Chad the Freshman.
He was more excited for school to start than mom was.

Sean was the next one to go to school.
Looking good.
6th Grade and ready to rule the school.

Ready to be an 8th grader and last to leave the house.

Not so nervous this year.
